How To Tie Down A Motorcycle In 3 Steps
In a valley or on a rough road or your motorcycle has broken down on the way, you need help from the trailer or flatbed to towing your car to the destination. Now you need the strap for motorcycle to hold your motorcycle securely and make sure it is in good condition when you arrive at the destination. Here are some steps to show you how to tie down a motorcycle:
Preparing the equipment you need before tie down the motorcycle
- A trailer that needs to do the towing job
- 4 motorcycle tie-down strap or more, if you are worried about it, you can tie more
- It is better if the trailer or flatbed has the E Track rail.
- If you have the wheel chock, it is better to keep the motorcycle straight
Load your motorcycle on the towing vehicle
There should be a ramp at the end of the trailer, hold your motorcycle and ride it to the trailer or if it is broken, you need someone else to help. If there is E Track on the bed of the trailer, it’s good. If no, you can put the wheel chock in front of the front wheel and fix the motorcycle to keep it straight.
We suggest 2 people do the job, if you only have one, please take extra attention, in order to avoid the motorcycle fall down and hurt someone or broken itself.
Transport your motorcycle with motorcycle straps
Now, you can fix the wheel chock with a screw and bolt or you can use a ratchet tie-down strap to fix it. Use the strap to go through the left bar of the wheel chock and the other end hook the attachment point(normally, trailers have it), do the same at the right side, and ratcheting the strap until both ends evenly tensioned.
There would be the E Track system or the front bar at the front of the trailer, you can use them as the attachment point. Also the same, put one end of the strap through the suspension at the left side and hook it at the anchor point of the E Track system or use the strap to go through the front bar of the trailer and ratcheting the strap. Same action on the right side.
You also need to tie the rear wheel of the motorcycle, the same way as above, put your strap through the rear tire and attach another end to the E Track rail or the attachment point at the end of the trailer, and ratcheting the strap.
If you do like this way, your motorcycle can be fixed strongly. If you still worry about it or you need to transport it long-distance, you can also refer the same way to tie down the middle of the motorcycle.
Double-check if all motorcycle strap are secured tightly
Check each straps for motorcycle, if some of them are not tightly fixed, then operate the ratchet handle to fix them, you can also hold the motorcycle handlebar to shake it to see anywhere need you to retighten.
