Attentions on Using Ratchet Straps
No matter the rules from the transportation department or ensuring the safe delivery of the cargo, ratchet straps are the very important tooling for truckers to tie down cargo on the flatbed trailer. So, here are some attentions on using ratchet straps
- Well-arranged the cargo on the flatbed
First, in order to ensure the steady transportation and safe delivery of the cargo, we need to well arrange the cargo at the back of the trailer and then you can use the tarp to cover the loads if necessary, the last step is to use the ratchet strap to tie down them in proper tension.
- Cover the load with suitable tarps
After arranging the loads on the flatbed trailer, you need to choose the suitable tarps for this hauling. Using the tarp to cover the cargo, it is important to put the excess material under the load in order to avoid whipping by the wind. Don’t allow the wind to lift your tarp up, or else, your tarp could get torn.
- Choosing proper ratchet straps to tie down the tarp
After the load is covered by the proper tarp, you can use ratchet straps or winch straps to tie down them. These straps will ensure your loads and tarp keep in place.
- Know the weight of your load before tying down
Different straps have different working load limits, before tying down, you should know the weight of your loads clearly and then choose the corresponding straps to tie down your cargo. For example, if the weight of the loads is 15,000lbs and each of the straps you have has a working load limit is 500lbs, then you will need 30 pieces of straps to secure the loads on the trailer.
Make sure the loading straps are in good condition and don’t tie down the cargo exceeding the working load limit of straps. Any of the truckers or trucking companies, don’t want to see the accident on the road and safety is always the top priority.
