Guide of Thread Ratchet Straps and Cam Buckle Straps

Both ratchet straps and cam buckle straps are widely used for tightening cargos while hauling and normally the size in the market are 1 inch tie down straps, 2 inch tie down straps, 3 inch tie down straps and 4 inch strap. Let us take a look at some differences between them.

Ratchet Straps

The ratchet tie down strap is always provided with the end fittings due to different tie down requirements, they may come with S hooks, vinyl-coated S hooks, Wire Hooks, Flat Hooks, Flat Snap Hooks, E Track Fitting, J Hook, Chain Extensions, etc. You can choose based on your specific needs.

The material of ratchet tie down straps and cam buckle tie down straps are always the polyester webbing which is durable, UV resistant, and water-resistant.

How to thread a ratchet strap

  1. Get the ratchet and open it, so that the webbing can go through the take-up spool.
  2. Through the webbing into the spool and then take it back on itself.
  3. Pull the webbing until no slack.
  4. Keep the webbing straight and start to ratchet the strap to your ideal tension.
  5. Once you ratchet the webbing to your desired tension, keep the ratchet to the close position.

If you want to release the strap, just open the ratchet and keep it to the flat position and pull the webbing out.

Cam Buckle Straps

In some cases, using a ratchet strap may over-tighten your cargo, so the cam buckle strap is your better choice. Cam straps are always provided with hardware: E Track Fitting, S Hooks, Flat Snap Hook, etc. The size we provided for cam buckle straps is always 1” and 2”.

How to thread a cam buckle strap

  1. Pressing the cam buckle and through the webbing into the buckle mouth.
  2. Then, pull the webbing to your desired tension and release the buckle to lock the strap.

If you want to release the webbing out of the cambuckle, just press the buckle and pull the webbing out.

Choosing which tie down strap is based on your loads. If your cargo is light and fragile, then a cam buckle strap is your good choice. If your cargo is heavier and solid, then you don’t need to worry about over-tightening, ratchet strap is your better choice.
